stick and move…

(an email to a co-worker of mine)

Business is just work until you find something you love to do.  Then it becomes a hobby that you get paid for!   Every single day you hear athletes, entertainers, and artist talk about passion, drive, the will to compete, the desire to get better…  They have that hunger inside them to create or become the next BIG thing.

People tend to burn out in their careers because they lose the desire to get better every single day.  They lose the drive to compete for the next big deal, the next big agent, the next big investor.  On average people switch jobs 11 times throughout their career and the reason they leave is because they think switching jobs or careers will refuel them.  They think it will help them rediscover that passion they once had early on in their career…   Let’s take a trip down memory lane here (regardless of how cheesy it is, I want to get your brain going…)   One of the greatest entertainers of our time (I KNOW you love you some JT)… he is always changing, adapting, and more importantly “REINVENTING” himself. If he remained the same throughout the course of his career he would have become irrelevant, outdated, and most likely a thing of the past!!!

You cannot get complacent.  You cannot become stagnant.  What happens when water doesn’t flow and constantly change positions???  It becomes toxic and the same thing goes for our careers, our relationships, and our minds…  We have to constantly challenge ourselves or we shut down.  We may not realize it but before you know it we have been doing the same thing for the last 10 years and the world has passed us by. The thrill of the job comes from the constant change…  The change in our market, the change in our approach, the change in our priorities, the change in our mindset, and ultimately the change in our results.

YOU WILL FAIL!  IT WILL BE SCARY! But, IT WILL BE FUN.  IT WILL BE EXILLERATING.  IT WILL BE REWARDING.  Early on in my career (not my job, my career) I had my mentor ask me a question that has stuck with me to this very day.  He simply asked “Do you believe in yourself?  Do you believe that you work hard?  Do you believe you’ll be successful?”.  My answer to that was a very quick and definitive YES. That was a little over 5 years ago and I haven’t looked back.   Have I failed?  Helllllll yeah.   Have I succeeded?  Yup.   Will I fail some more?  Without a doubt.  Do I care?  Nope, because that in between of failure and success lies the thrill…

Inspire people.  Drive people.  Challenge people.  Help people.  Motivate people. Punk people.   Honor people.  Accept people.  Embrace people. AND THEN DO ALL THOSE THINGS FOR YOURSELF.

YOU GOT THIS!   NOW FIGURE IT OUT.
