My life used to be about business, now my business is about LIFE!

cropped-chabolla-logo-2.jpg A lot of people have asked how I got to where I am going and where I am headed… 2007-2008 I was at Countrywide Home Loans where I got my feet wet in the lending business… 2009  I walked into a company called Wholesale Capital Corporation with no idea what was about to go down. I had just left Countrywide Home Loans where I began my mortgage career and learned the basics of this crazy business called Real Estate.  At WCC I got hooked up with the owner of the company Ed Hoffman and started on his team in somewhat of a “training” position.  Here I was 27 years old, recently married and starting over…  It was a scary time but I almost thrived even more in the uncertainty. You see at this time the position on Ed’s team was merely a 6 month gig…  you’re in, you learn, you’re out… Or so I thought.  When I started on the team we were closing about 8-12 deals a month and I was learning anything I could from him.  I sat in Ed’s office late nights picking his brain because this is when the phones stopped ringing and people thought we were at home relaxing, little did they know this is when I was learning from one of the best. I was learning about structuring deals, overcoming objections, how to get deals done that no one else could, but I think I was really learning about work ethic.  After a year or so I realized, I LOVED what I was doing.  Now don’t get me wrong, to know Ed is to love Ed, but it also involves hating him sometimes. He is always tough but fair.  He is always demanding, while at the same time understanding.  He expects alot, but gives just as much… Fast forward a year 2010 and 2011 and we had increased our volume to 25 deals a month with a big investor account.  I was handling about 60% of the deals, asking for help when I needed it but trying to carry more of the load as I learned.  We (Ed and I) had a machine going and it was becoming a more well oiled every day.  25 deals was now EASY.  We had a great process, one of the best processors on the face of this earth in Heather and we were really cranking.  It was about this time I was told yes told that I had to hire an assistant and little did I know that this was going to be the game changer… I hired my friend Sophie who had no mortgage background but had a work ethic that matched mine and Ed’s.  We took off, Ed let me run with almost any and every idea I had to help us streamline the process and business became a game that I played every day. The mortgage business was becoming more that just individual deals, it became about how BIG could we get this… With my ambition and Ed’s experience and knowledge I didn’t see a ceiling… 2012, we landed another large account. The team had grown and now Ryan was added to the team as my 2nd assistant.  Ryan was a young kid that I met at Nordstrom and hired.  He was young, energetic, ambitious, presented himself well and that is all I needed… The deals went from 25 a month to 40.  The intensity, stress and money were all high but most of all we were having FUN!  My assistant Sophie and I really, really, REALLY analyzed the process to see where we could get 1 week, 1 day or even 1 hour faster…  We came up with ideas, ran them by Ed and were given the green light to implement and succeed.  I was recognized and one of the Top Producing Loan Officers in the Country but something was missing… 2013 and something just wasn’t there.  The volume was consistently 30-40 deals a month and we were firing on all cylinders, but I went through a period where I just wasn’t happy and I couldn’t figure out why. The funding’s and money were rolling in but I realized I had been behind my desk for the last 5 years with my head down getting loans done but I never developed those deep rooted relationships with my agents, co-workers and clients.  I had become a machine for a lack of a better term and I didn’t feel as though I was being fulfilled. I started asking myself if I could see myself doing this another 5 years and the answer was no…  Nothing changed in my business, it just wasn’t fun anymore.  I started dreaming about something different.  Something bigger.  Something more meaningful.  I envisioned starting something that was mine. Taking young real estate hungry people and creating something that “Rejuvenates Real Estate”.  I guess I was looking for a new challenge… In October of 2013 Ed and I split the team up and I was now on my own with my assistant Sophie and we were BORED!  The deals we had were so easy, we just were not challenged. Ed and I are still working together day in and day out on another project that we have going which is great.  I am still learning and more importantly still wanting to learn but I have visions of something more, something that I can put my stamp on.  There is no reason why I can’t take a group of young, hungry, ambitious, dedicated, committed, and driven professionals and change the game.  The idea of a WCC office in Corona was born and that is where we are headed.  I want to create a team that will provide a level of customer service, knowledge and commitment to the top agents and their clients in Corona and the surrounding areas.  The foundation is being set… Stay tuned!
